Rgb first time

Hi, I just upgraded my case to the corsair airflow 3000d rgb.

When I went to connect the rgb cable to the rgb header on my board, I noticed that the header on the mobo has 4 pins, but the rgb connect only has three holes, trying to plug it in looks like it would bend one of the pins. Do I need an adapter for this. Also it has 3 intake fans at front, and an exhaust at the back. But I have a 3 way splitter, so currently left one of the front fans disconnected. I was also considering an exhaust at the top. What is the best budget way to achieve this, thanks in advance

Looks like your motherboard only has a 12volt header and your rgb is only 5 volts. There should be a converter you can get though. Maybe @Intel_man can offer some insight here.

Yeah you'll need a controller for those ARGB fans. They're not compatible to the 4 pin 12V RGB headers on your motherboard.

If you want to stay on the corsair eco system, you would probably need to pick up their Commander Duo controller to control the RGB's correctly. It pulls power from a SATA power cable, and you need to connect it to an available USB 2.0 header for signal.

Cheers, is it important that I stick with corsair for the controller, and also is it more complicated? With this one, they've plugged all the rgb fans in to one connector already making it easier. Would I need to connect them separately to the controller? Also, I'm probably only going to have the front 3 fans as rgb. Would this have any bearing as to whether I should stick with the corsair controller? Thanks for the help

I believe any ARGB controller would work. You'd have to shop around and see which device and their accompanying software you'd prefer. I only suggested corsair because your case and the rgb fans are from Corsair. At the end of the day, you'll have to read reviews of the controllers, figure out the quirks and features, and pick the one that would annoy you the less.

Usually, the ARGB connector splits off to plug into multiple fans per header on the controller and you daisy chain the other fans to be controlled (think of them as zones, like heating zones in homes).

Cheers, to be fair. I do choose Corsair for most stuff. But they can be expensive and I was considering cutting a corner as I'd only just forked out for a case. My own fault really, I jumped into rgb with no knowledge about it at all. I'm probably going to focus on my fan problem first while I wait to get paid next, as that's a cheaper problem to solve. Then come back to this. Thanks for you advice on this
