Im building myself a Godly gaming computer

i got the 9800gx2 and planning on getting 2 in the future
im on a budget of 100$
whats a good powersupply for the 9800gx2?
and a cheap one too.
Thanks

You don't want a Cheap PSU. Cheap PSU won't do the job, no matter what the wattage, and is more likely to fail anyways... get something like Corsair, I think the 600W version costs under $100, if not, look into the 520W model - was it HX520? - don't be intimidated by the low wattage, that PSU should definitely do the job unless you have like 8 or so HDDs... posting the rest of your system specs would help too.

Case:Antec 900 (just got it ^^)
Video: 9800gx2
cpu: q6600
Motherboard: Nivida Evga 750i
Hd: Western Digital 500gb
Ram: 4g

min requirements on a 9800gx2 are 580w. think i should go for 700w, or just stay with 600w, would it really make a diffrence in gaming proformance?

The recommended wattages for the PSU are safe estimates for common el-cheapo PSUs, if you get a high-quality unit like Corsair you can go heaps lower - a 600watt Corsair PSU would easily handle your current setup and the extra GX2.

Yea, looks good, it's a quality brand as well, and it's definitely got enough wattage to power your system. I'm not sure if that particular model is good, but AFAIK it is, and I'm sure it's better than some El Cheapo no matter what.

you'll proabably want a 1000watt unit if you're going to sli of pair of gx2's though, those arent cheap either, usually 250-300 dollar range

You don't necessarily need a 1000W PSU, but you do need one with:

  • All the connectors you need for the rest of your PC
  • 2 x 6 Pin PCI-E
  • 2 x 8 Pin PCI-E

It's not like some other cards where you could just plug another 6 pin into the 8 pin socket. Each 9800GX2 will require 1 x 6 Pin PCI-E power, and 1 x 8 Pin PCI-E power. It would be best to go for one with about 4 12V rails. I found a Hiper 770W one for my build on ebuyer.com, at £85~ with Quad-SLi, 4 x SATA, obviously the 2 x 6 and 2 x 8 pins, and more for the rest of my PC. Check it out here.

If you live in the UK, you should look for that one. If not, check this one out.

All of the PSU's supporting Quad-SLi are out of your budget. For $100, you'd be lucky to find a PSU supporting one 9800GX2 (although they can be found). The PSU I suggested above is a very reputable brand, and is fairly cheap for a Quad-SLi ready PSU, with 4 independant 12V rails, which almost guarantees stability.

Hope this was helpful enough. Don't skimp out though, if you don't have the money, wait till you do then buy a decent PSU - or risk loosing you're entire setup.

It would be a good idea to get a PSU from this list: http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_9800gx2_pwr_supply.html

I would recommend the Corsair 1000W for its high efficiency, active PFC, polymer capcitors, 5 year warranty, TRUE dual rail 12V output. If you are going to get two 9800X2's then you need a 1000W PSU minimum (The Corsair 1000W is a true multirail with 2 x 500W PSUs put together) due to the necessary amperage required for effectivly 4 x 8 series GPUS.

I know that others will disagree (from experience), and i can if you wish justify the above claims, but trust me if you want to run 2 of these puppies (not sure why you would want to), you will need a 1KW PSU of quality make (specs similar to above).

Agreed, but they are virtually the same psu, just review the warranty period.

This is perfect, Does it support SLI
and just curious , with this Psu can i maybe add another 9800gx2 in the future perhaps, its ok if i cant just wondering :P

That's a really good deal. If you get that second GX2, then this PSU would def power it. ;)
