Ripping a DVD movie to a hard drive.

very possible.. there is already a thread similar to this.. there are many programs.. but i personally use DVD Decrypter (which isn't in production anymore). its easy and quick saving it as an image

Use dvd decryptor and when you want to burn the movie to dvd use dvd shrink. Only use dvd shrink if it was a dual layer movie, you can burn the movie using nero now because its not encrypted. But remember you have to own the dvd.

yea its illegal to copy a dvd if u dont own it and even if you are doing it illegaly there are plenty of programs that can decrypt it for u, save it in a temporary file, then burn it 2 a blank disc. I was thinking about doin it but i didnt want to get caught up in anything illegal. a good one is 1 Click DVD Copy, or Apollo DVD copy. But ur doing it at ur own risk

Should we be advising on this? I'm not sure, but if you use ANYdvd it removes various things, CSS protection, Region coding, and allows some cool features while you're watching movies. If you're making back ups of movies you OWN NOT RENT to play in your portable DVD player DVD shrink works well and you skip the decrytor process, because it's being done with ANY dvd.

I have just used DVD shrink and it worked well. My main goal is to get my DVD's down to DivX files to watch them on my laptop. I was hoping I could get the files to around 700 or 800 megabytes a movie. Any help?

Just a little advice, DVD shrink will work with out decrypting it about 15 out of 16 times, so if you run Any DVD in the background oyu won't have to worry about it not working.

I'm new here, so I figure I'll just piggyback on this topic instead of starting my own, seeing as they are similar. First off, I think I should just make sure of this. If I have a dvd drive, not a dvd burner drive, can I somehow store video from a dvd onto my computer? I would assume it is possible, seeing as how it can be done with a cd, but I could be wrong. If it can't be done, you don't need to bother reading the rest of this post.

I have burnt movies onto dvd-rw using a dvd/vcr combo burner, and am attempting to store them on my hard drive. However, when I put the disc into my dvd drive, nothing happens, nothing comes up, not the usual window asking what I would like to do with the media. So naturally I go into My Computer and click the proper drive, I get a window that pops up, it says:
Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted or use a format that is not compatible with Windows
I have reformatted the disc using the dvd burner, so figure it must be the disc, after this post, I will go try another disc, just to make sure. But if it can't be done, it can't be done, but if it can, any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

dvd/vcr??? well im not sure how that works.. never heard or seen of one.. but it may be burning the dvd in a different format.. and are you trying to back up that burned dvd onto your computer? or the original dvd?

It is the original form of the movie, it's basically a home movie, that I would like on my PC. Well, I have tried reformatting it, and gave also tried using a different disc, neither have worked. I just don't see how my dvd drive doesn't read dvd. It is a dvd-r and dvd-rw and the drive does not read them. When using the dvd-r it doesn't even recognize that the disc is there, it will just say "Insert disc in Drive H" and nothing happens.

if ur wanting to make (legal) backup use DVDFabExpress it takes off encryption and shinks DVD to fit the disc provided without loss of quality and sound i use it every now and then when i need to make a backup disc

Two hard drives. It was E: I believe when there was only one hard drive. The thing is, nothing recognizes the disc, I have software that can copy the disc, but nothing recognizes the disc.

How old is the drive? and do you have the right drivers installed? What's the make and model of your drive

if at all else fails.. just get a dvd burner for your pc.. easier way.. its gone down in prices these days.. not too expensive.. in the double digits now..

Try magiciso, it is a good ISO creator. you can use it make an iso image from DVD to your hard disk. and using virtual cd tools to mount it as dvd.

I used AOA DVD Ripper when my lord or the rings the fellowship of the ring special extended edition Disc 2 got a crack in it, not on the data but close I thought it might spread so I ripped it to my HD jest in case.
