Rogers Canada FRUSTRATION.

So, I've finally had it with rogers. In my house, the SMC router I have isn't strong enough to reach my house. We just to have it upstairs, where it did reach good, but now it is downstairs in my room so I can have wired for my desktop. What should I do? Should I get an amplifier for the DSL and try that? Or replace the SMC router? Or get another splitter like they use and hook up another router/modem upstairs again?

If its possible for you to run a cable between 2 routers then I would suggest you doing that, it's real easy setting up.

I could easily pick up one of the spiltters they use and a new router and doing that. Could you reccomend a good DSL router to use? (Preferably on newegg.ca, tigerdirect.ca or any other canadian site)

Daisy chain them together. What you do is take an ethernet cable from the smc and attach it to one of the lan ports on the new router, plus you would have to change some settings on the new router. I have 3 routers in my home. The main, then I have another one with the setup I just explained and then I have another one with wwdrt setup as a wireless repeater/bridge. They are all wrt54g series linksys routers.

Okay, yeah I see. Is there a way to like connect the two wifi's? Or do I have to have seperate wifi channels and have my computers connect to the strongest of the two?

and is this the router?

Yes, thats one of the routers I have. You can't use this type of a router as a repeater/bridge unless you update the firmware to wwdrt which I did on one of my GL's as my internet port went out on me. How far apart would the routers be?

There is no sense in putting routers next to each other. Can you link me to the router you have now? A router with external antennae's would help out tremendously in your case. You can direct the antennae's on the wrt54gl to where you need the signal. And if you go out and buy an actual extender/repeater, they tend to be iffy at best, no gaurantee they will work.

The only problem I see is that its a wireless modem and gateway. So you are either gonna have to keep that and buy a second router and hook them together or buy a dedicated modem and separate wireless N router with external antennae's.

So would you say buy one of those linksys routers I linked before, hook it to the modem, and then turn the wireless off the on the SMC modem/router would be a good solution?
