Rosewill Power Supplies: To be or not to be

I've lurked around in many PC forums and noticed one thing. Rosewill power supplies are said to be useless pieces of junk. While some of the comments I've read might be true, I don't see the reason why they're so bad. If you go on Newegg and look around for a while, you'll notice that some of their power supplies have nothing but good reviews. For example, the RX750 D-B.

It's specs seem to be very good, and I've experienced first-hand that they are very reliable. One of my friends uses this power supply, and due to its mirror finish he calls it "The only power supply that lets you run your computer beautifully and see your delighted face at the same time". I don't really understand why people say that Rosewill makes crappy power supplies. The main problem I've seen with their power supplies are DOA units, but those were only a few. I believe it's time that everyone noticed that this stereotype isn't true. If you have a reason that proves that Rosewill power supplies are crap, then please tell me. I may be blinded by the power supply's stunning looks.:)

A lot of people will make (or repeat) those sort of generalisations without really understanding them.

Rosewill really are a mixed bag. Like most companies that sell PSUs, Rosewill don't make their own. Rosewill use a plethora of different manufacturers of varying quality (take a look at http://www.computerforum.com/90112-psu-rebranding-guide.html and you will see the list - ATNG, Deer, Leadman, Solytech, Wintech, and Youngyear). The units produced by Deer, Leadman, Youngyear and Solytech are generally very poor quality (hence the reputation). The ATNG built units, however, have shown themselves to be solid performers at a budget price.

You can see a great review of the RX750 and RX850 at http://www.jonnyguru.com/review_details.php?id=122. Suffice to say the performance is impressive, given the pricetag. It's a very solid unit all round, and while not the best 750W around, it is certainly one of the best value.

If you're looking for PSU recommendations, my entire list is located at http://www.computerforum.com/90117-ceewi1s-psu-recommendations.html.

If you don't mind the rebate, the Silverstone ST75ZF is spectacular quality, but nowhere near as 'pretty' as the Rosewill. Cheaper yet is the Coolermaster Real Power Pro 750W, which is a very good quality unit, and about the cheapest 750W PSU you'll find.

When in doubt, go with something that's been reviewed a LOT. Sort the reviews from worst to best, and you can get a pretty good idea whether the PSU is junk or if there where just a few bad ones sent out, as happens with any item.
