Router and Extender Isssues

I have an extender hooked up to my router, but often the internet will randomly cut out, not the signal, but the internet. I get 3-4 bars upstairs, yet it will randomly disconnect and cut everyone off of internet in the house or my ping will slowly rise to 2,000 ms then shut off.

You got the extender IP address set correctly? Not sure if it has the option but make sure dhcp is off if it does. Are you sure its not the modem?
 
Modem doesn't produce a wireless signal and the router is hooked up to it via an ethernet cable. When I bought the extender, all it said to do waa to hook it up to the wireless signal you wanted boosted. I'll check for the hc tonight.
 
Even though the modem doesn't produce a wireless signal(which I already knew :D) its still possible that the modem is dropping the internet. Seems you are still getting signal from router so its possible it could be modem. Also could be router/extender especially if there is an IP conflict.

I figured so :p, but the router has a firmware update should I install that btw? Also I am getting an ip conflict apparently just got the message. My extender is unplugged so I'm guessing modem and router are conflicting like you said?

Ok so whats the IP address of the router and modem? The extender will still need an IP assigned to it, all devices in a network gets assigned one except for switches. For example, if the router IP address is 192.168.1.1 then the extender should be assigned 192.168.1.2. I have a feeling router and extender is using same IP address.
 
So this started happening when you installed the extender? If so, then its possible the extender is bad. So it will even disconnect people that are hardwired into the router? Sounds like an IP conflict or hardware issue.
 
thinking ip conflict as windows has told me there was an ip conflict yesterday lol. I also think this problem has been going on for a while, but no-one has noticed until I moved there and noticed it.
