Router keeps disconnecting with Comcast modem

I recently got the Comcast package with phone and internet build into there modem that I rent.

Before I did not have the phone service so when I got it they had to change out the modem.

Since then I have been getting disconnects and have to reset the modem and router at least 5 times a week

I have called them and they have tested the modem at there end and say the signel is fine. They tell me to connect directly to the modem and test it.
Well we have 3 systems in the house and I'm not going to sit there on my laptop for 3 days to test this and then the other system will not have internet. Then if I have them come out to tell my it is on my end I end up paying $49 for the service.

I have a NETGEAR FM114P router with built-in print server and except for the disconnects it works great even though I'm running Vista.

My question here is....
Can I do anything at my end to stop the disconnects. The router states the firmware it up to date.
I do have a Netgear WPN824 router also that works good but it doesn't have a print server and I can't find a stand alone print server that supports Vista.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Thanks for any help,
Debbie

I have had similar problems when it comes to routers. Although mine were fixed with updated firmware. I would strongly suggest searching through Netgears website to see if your router is in fact up to date. Have you configured your router or have it set on default settings? A lot of times Netgears FAQ's portion on their website is useful. Sometimes routers are just finicky but 5 times a week sounds tolerable to be honest. I use to have to disconnect mine and reset it numerous times a day, until the firmware update. Which is why I suggested it. If that is not the case and you have double checked it, I would suggest looking for the optimal setting for your router in the setup you have. I am unsure of the exact setting or router model options so maybe someone else can suggest those.

k, I will look into that.
I also read on another post here that it could be the modem and router firewall fighting with each other.

I think I will reset the router to default and then turn off the firewall.
I would still have the modem and pc firewall enabled.

Another post stated and if I understand this correctly.
To connect to the cable modem with the pc that I did the setup on and clone the pc mac address. I would assume this would be the router's mac address but if I'm connected to the cable modem not sure how this would work.
I have my router's mac address set to default right now.

Thanks,
Debbie
