Router Problems(I Think?)Suggestions ??

Bought a Wii gaming system and my wife wanted a Aspire Netbook. So I checked the routers out and bought a Belkin Connect N150. The gaming console is only 6 ft. away from the router and the netbook is about 10ft away on the next floor. Read that if this is all i'm going to use(Wii + netbook)this is all the router I would need.

About 3 weeks ago my internet speed slowed down to a trickle. So I disconnected the router for 30 minutes and plugged it back in and my speed was normal again. Now for the past 3 days I have had to unplug the router everyday to get my speed back.

Now I know the Belkin I got is a low end router but have read where people with much more expensive routers have to routinely reset there routers for the same reason. Router is less than 6 months old. Any suggestions? Thanks!

You need to get and computer and hard wire it to the computer to see if the network issue is the router or your connection, if it is your connection you may need to contact your ISP.
Once you have hard wired a computer you will need to do some speed test on a site like speedtest.net, if you speed is around where it should be then you will need to look for other factors like malware which could be sucking your speed.
Routers/modems do need to be turned off and back on occasionally after that they can work fine for days then need it again, sometimes the router needs to refresh its connection to the server, simplist way to do this is to turn it off and then on, or power cycle it.
Every router I have ever used does this. And it will happen on the majority of routers.
Btw reset and restart are not the same, resetting will set everything back to default factory settings, which is usually un-needed for this kind of problem.

Ok I just got done plugging the router back in and for the first time this did not fix the speed problem. I always go to dslreports for my speed tests. I disconnected the router and hooked my line up to eliminate the router and did a speed test and sure enough the speed was way low so that tells me the router is not the problem. The problem has to be with my ISP.

I get my cable, phone and internet service with the same company and they are usually very quick to fix any problems. Have talked to them before and they said if there is a problem that people don't even have to call in to report a problem because it show's up at there main office.

So far this has been true because twice I have lost my cable past midnight and they usually have the problem fixed in 30-45 minutes. I hope I did the right thing to at least eliminate the router as the cause. Thanks for your help. Update: As of 30 minutes ago my speed returned to normal.

Unless you have modem/router combo unit then you should be unplugging the modem not the router when you have speed issues.

Sorry i forgot to mention this, in the UK we pretty much always have the router/mobo combo, we very rarely seem to have both a modem and router.

some companies raise and decrease there speed how long has this been going on for if not long then it maybe temporaily
