Do they make a router that is wired but yet has the capabilities of also sending out a wireless signal? I would like to keep my desktop on a secure wired router and would like to be able to use my laptop throughout the house if possible.
 
Yeah, thats how almost every wireless router is. They usually have like 4 wired outputs and the antenna(s). Thats how mine is. My family uses wireless and I have my gaming comp hardwired in.
 
Wireless router always has ethernet ports, wireless access points are what usually only have wireless with one ethernet port.
 
WOW, that is a bit pricy. anyway i would not go with N yet. for one you only need it if you are doing local file transfers. (from computer a to computer b in you network) and secound it is still draft and will take a while to get finilised (will i think it is finaly finilised but it will still take time)
