Alright so I have a stability issue that is reoccurring with every router I get. It started about 6 months to a year ago. We had a wireless router and out of no where I was severely lagging in my game to the point where I was clipping through objects. It was unplayable. So I ran a ping test from the command prompt pinging google.com. The original results were all over the place ~30-900ms with no packet loss. We purchased a similar router but a newer version and it was fine for about a week then the problems happened again. A short while after that we purchased another router, different brand, more of a high end router than the previous ones. This one was good for about a month or so and now I'm having the same issues.
I am hard wired but the problem occurs both wired and wireless. A night or two ago I actually hit a ms response of over 2000. I took a quick video of pinging google.com with the results but if no one wants to watch the video I will describe the issue further.

The ping is fairly stable if I sit at my desktop with nothing open. However if I navigate to youtube and stream a video i go from a solid 33ms to 33-170ms. And this increases with more things I open that use internet (skype, raidcall, steam, a game, etc). Now I know an increase is expected but I don't think that much of one is supposed to happen. This happens with the router and without the router (directly connected to the modem).
The other concern I have is. If the router is the source of the issue why does it keep occurring? The router(s) work fine at first then this problem occurs so I believe something is damaging the routers. Any help?
