probably a dumb question, and I apologize if there is a thread addressing this somewhere on the forums. If there is, please Direct me to the appropriate thread. Thank you.

My GF and I just moved in with some friends. We have the Downstairs, they have the Upstairs. The internet is already set up here, and the Wireless router is upstairs. I have a really nice router that I would like to use, in place of my USB Wifi Adapter.

My question. Is there away to use my router, to connect to his, so that I may use the ports in the back of my router for things like my Xbox, PS3, etc...

Not sure if this is possible. Please ask any questions if you need any more info. Thanks in advance!
 
Depending on the router you have, you might be able to flash DD-WRT firmware onto it and use it as a wireless receiver and connect other devices to it via Ethernet.
 
Any model of router should be able to do this with no issues. Set it up like this.

First router - dhcp on, wireless on, automatically get ip and dns settings. For example if the internal ip of the router is 192.168.1.1 then

your router - Dhcp off, wireless on, set your internal ip to 192.168.1.2. You must use an ethernet cable to from one of the 4 lan ports (not the internet port) on your router and the other end goes into one of the 4 lan ports on the first router.
 
Ahhh okay so I have to manually hook up one router to the other. This is what I was trying to avoid. I was hoping I could do it via Wifi, as the other router is upstairs.
 
Is that not possible? Hooking up a Router to another Via Wifi? And using the Ports in my Other router to hook up Consoles?
 
Yeah I read that. But then I got the impression that that was not how to do it based on the next post. I will look my Router up and see if its compatible with DD-WRT Firmware. Thanks guys.

What you want is a wireless bridge, which converts a wireless connection to ethernet. Most advanced routers either support this, or may allow you to flash DD-WRT or Tomato which usually allows you to do this.

I know what I'm talking about. I just have a hard time explaining it in a way others will understand.
