Hi,

I have been trying to loop 2 routers to each other but no access on internet.

we have the main router which is a linksys e1000 which the internet modem is connected to it and its working. Now i connected a lan cable and passed it to another office and connected it in the internet port in a linksys wrt54gl and used automatic ip. also configured the wireless ssid and password to a different name etc. so i dont have conflict. anyways i still cant be able to have access to the internet on the linksys wrt54gl..

has anyone come across such a thing and he was able to make it work.

FYI i tried it before with 2 linksys wrt54gl and it works but confused maybe the linksys e1000 and linksys wrt54gl doesnt support..

please anyone advice me on this.. would be appreciated

thank you

You can't use the internet port on the second router. The cable must be plugged into 1 of the 4 LAN ports. You must also configure the second router to use internal IP address of 192.168.1.2 as the first router uses 192.168.1.1. You must also turn off dhcp on the second router so that the first router handles all the IP addresses.

Thanks johnb35.

I am going to give it a try and will let you know if i was able to make it work.

johnb35, it did not work as you have explained.

I did the following...

I connected the cable to PORT 1. The first router is running on Local IP 192.168.10.1 then i put the second IP 192.168.10.2. Disabled the DHCP on the second router and got no result.

Am not sure on what to do. I have tried all possible ways but without any result.

Funny enough i have done this before with 2 Linksys WRT54GL linking both routers. What i did was 1st router is the main router which is ex: IP 192.168.2.1 while the 2nd router is with IP 192.168.3.1. I used the internet port behind the router, also used a static ip to loop the 1st to the second and it works great. Am still using it till today in the Redbull department with no complains.

Am going get another router with the same model as the one being used which is Linksys E1000 and try to see if it would work as to how i described above.

Anyways if you still got any other tips i can try, it would be appreciated.

You may have disable NAT as well, look under advanced routing on the second router. I have sucessfully linked 2 wrt54g series routers together using the procedure explained above and it worked for me.

Under advanced routing i can only see (Operating Mode: Gateway or Router) and there is static ip under the operation mode.

thanks

johnb35, i would like to tell you that i sort it out but the options u gave me didnt work.

I changed the colour code on the wiring which are

1. White Orange 1. White Green
2. Orange 2. Green
3. White Green 3. White Blue
4. Blue 4. Blue
5. White Blue 5. White Orange
6. Green 6. Orange
7. White Brown 7. White Brown
8. Brown 8. Brown

This is how i sorted the colours of the wire in the connectors and then i configureed local ip to a different ip address and put in the static id of the 1st router. Configured the wireless etc and thats about it.

thanks for your help appreciated

It seems you basically created a crossover cable but a crossover cable is only needed between 2 pc's to be able to communicate to each other. However, it seems you have got it to work so I guess thats the most important thing.

Apparently yes i used a crossover connection. But it seems to be working great and no problem at all.. you should try it someday..
