Router

okay, so here is what I want. I would like something compatible with the Time Warner network, and that will do the IP settings for the switch. I would prefer wireless, but I have that from the phone company in worst case scenario (its cheaper to keep it because of the bundle). Basically all I am looking to do is plug my ethernet port from the modem into it and run the outgoing cable to the switch and be done (minus setting up the wireless if it has it).

So how have you been using wireless if all you have is a basic cable modem? A good router would be the wrt54gl.

Let me lay it out where it makes sense.

The phone contract is in Mums name (I still pay the darn bill though. :( ) It covers 10MB internet (wireless and ethernet), nationwide phone, and Direct TV. If we get rid of that internet, the bill goes down $2, but we get a $250 fine for breaking the contract.

Time Warner is in my name. It is basic one line internet. One modem at 30Mb/s (might be 25 Mb, not quite sure. I could look it up). I want to make this one go wireless so that I am only running off of one network always.

Does this make sense? I only got the time warner because I was tired of the outages on century Link. Seems like every time it rains the dang DSL light goes out and we are out of internet for hours. And the TW is faster for not much more at all. (its $45 a month).

Is it at all hard to set up? And would it be possible to set it up to use wireless, but be invisible to everyone else?

Yes it's easy to set up. Just plug it in and run the CD. Once setup you can set the SSID to be hidden.

Most of the time you don't even need to run the cd. I have comcast and its plug it in and go. With some providers, you may have to use the cd though.

okay, noted. It is still 2 weeks before I have the money to get it, but I will post up when I do if I have any more questions.
