Rumbling noise on my HD

So I just built my new rig and it runs WONDERFULLY. I love everything about it except one thing... The noise my HD makes. Ya know the noise where when ya load something, it makes the noise what a loaded HD does. But thats the problem, I JUST got this HD and it makes this noise, its not bad but I dont want to hear it when I am loading something. is there a way to fix that problem?

Thanks and cheers!

What kind of rumbling? Access noise? does it click?

My hard drives are generally quiet until you start accessing data and such.

Maybe record a video of the noises and post it here.

It makes like a... loading sound. Ya know when a computer gets old and when ya load a file it makes some noise that its working. Yeah kinda like a crackling sound. And I would make a video to post what the noises are, but I dont have a camera. Sorry mates.

I noticed in your sig it says you have a pair of 160gb hard drives. Is this a consistent problem on both of them? Try testing them seperately to see if the problem is only on one drive, that way you can isolate and rma only the bad one. Unless it's both of them, you'll still have one good drive to use until you can get a suitable replacement. May just be a loose screw causing the noise, so tighten them up to avoid hearing anything. All the best..

RMA it because when hard drives make that type of nose they tend to fail shortly after. back up all ur data then get it replaced

When I do send my stuff back, I can upload whatever I backed up and when I receive a new HD I can re-upload everything like how I set it up like it is now?

Copy everything on your current hard drive to a DVD or to another hard drive. Then RMA that hard drive because if it is making any noise besides a quiet wind type of noise, that probably means the reading arms or discs are acutally brushing (hitting) against something and I can basically guarantee you that it will completely break very, very soon. When your new hard drive arrives, transfer all the information from the DVD or other hard drive back to your new hard drive.

The hard drive on my computers have always made an accessing noise. Always. I have 3 hard drives over 5 years old, and have always made a noise when accessing files, and are still going strong. Usually you can't hear it because the fans on the box are so loud. Go to Google, and search "hard drive failure sounds". The first link should have a website that lists many sounds of hard drive failure. Danda, I wouldn't jump to conclusions.

I don't think there is a problem if it is just the "crackling" load sound. Defrag and see if the noise is less, because when fragmented, the platter + head has to move more than when defragmented. When new I could hear my F3 over my fans, it clearly isn't a hardware issue as months after purchase, it is still going exactly as it was at purchase, it is just the hard drive acting normally; with moving parts comes noise, the noise isn't necessarily a bad thing (reliability wise), it is just a fact
