Hi Kathy,

I see you made it over here from Annoyances.org.

Please download rkill.scr from this website.

http://www.technibble.com/rkill-repair-tool-of-the-week/

It will be the third link under where it says downloads. Then run it. It should temporarily disable the infection that is causeing your issue with the exe's. Then run the following procedure.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here or here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please keep updating until it says you have the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

If you continue to experience problems after doing this, please post a HijackThis log by doing the following:

Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces along with the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log

Please post both logs.

Problem is John...I am writing this on my laptop as the desktop with the problem will not let me download anything and the only way to the internet is on Aol. I tried to download malwarebytes and a few others but they say no temp file exists and it won't let me D/L to the desktop and even if it did I cannot open any exe files...so you see my problem. Maybe I should just format and reinstall xp fron the disc...what do you think?
Kathy

Do you have a usb flash drive available to use? You can download that file from your laptop and transfer it to desktop using the flash drive.

I'm glad that you were able to get things taken care of Kathy. I do also recommend staying here at computerforum as some members over at annoyances can get down right nasty if its not an operating system related issue. We have a very good community here and there are always many people wanting to give help.
