Running 95/98 on a brand new machine?

A friend told me that it would go as fast a a cheater on steroids because it takes nothing to run. But is that true? Because, and I told him this, there wasn't the whole 1gig RAM back then and stuff, so it would be able to take 3 gigs would it? Only like 1/4 of the 2 Cores would run wouldn't it?

I am confused, please help.

That would be partially correct but if Windows xp only supports 3GB ram then I really doubt windows 98 would. Plus good luck finding compatible drivers for your hardware lol. That would be the main issue and if your planning on running any new games, forget it lol. Just go with windows xp professional... lol.

95 and 98 won't run well if at all on a new machine. The hardware has no drivers and 98 won't support most of it out of the box. Plus most modern software wouldn't work. In fact 98 can only support 2GB of memory anyway

I wasn't thinking of actually doing it, just wanted to know, just one of those moments, you know?
So it defiantly would not work, or just be pointless, well I know it's pointless, but yeh? IDK

You can try it, and good luck to you lol. In my computer tech class we got a really really old computer as a donation and needed a new hard drive and after I replaced that I installed windows 3.11 on it, just for the hell of it lol. hahaha.

Firstly Windows 98 doesn't support multi-core CPUs; only one core will be used. Secondly, Win98 can only utilize up to 512MB of RAM, going higher makes it go bananas. Still, it would run fast as a cheater on steroids... but wouldn't be usable as most pieces of modern hardware don't have drivers for 98. Being stuck at 640x480 w/16 colors is not fun when you try to game...without sound.
