Running low on memory

Morning guys,

My computer informed me that i am close to using all of the available memory. I checked and I had 1 gb of memory left. I moved some things off unto a external HD, but that still only leaves me with 7gb. Is there a way I can pull up a list of files and sort by the largest files/folders? Im not sure what is taking up so much memory. Thanks!

technically you could pull up a list like that but it wouldn't be practical to do that to solve your issue.

you should go into control panel > add/remove programs, and sort by the size of the program. remove old games or programs you recognize and dont need.

then go through locations on your pc where you know you have files.

ex. my documents, my pictures, my videos, desktop etc.

sort through and delete what you dont need there.

download and run ccleaner, run the cleaner and the registry fix while you have it up.

once you've done all that, use the windows defrag tool, or defraggler (from same company as ccleaner) to defragment your HDD. this will take awhile to complete but if your drive is badly fragmented it could free up a nice chunk for you.

or just format and reinstall windows on it, whatevers easier for you.
