Running OSX (or Leopard) on a PC

First of all, I want to make sure that I'm understanding what Boot Camp does. Boot Camp allows Windows Operating Systems to run on a Mac correct?

If I'm understanding what Boot Camp does correctly, then why can't PC users run Apple Operating Systems (Due to Legality issues)? Why is this a one way street? It's okay for Mac users to run Windows....but PC users can't run Apple OS's?

Or am I misunderstanding something? Is there a way to run OS X Or Leopard on a PC? (Besides downloading it off of a torrent, and "hacking" it?)


If someone could clear this up...that'd be great.

^^lol I knew right when I saw "truenuff" that it would be funny, as I've seen a few of their videos on youtube.

Well...I guess that pretty much summed it up...I'm screwed (unless I download a torrent and hack it, which I'm WAY to lazy to do...)

Maybe (in a LONG time) M$ will make something similar to BootCamp...(maybe in Windows Vienna or w/e its supposed to be called?)

see my sig..lol, anyways yeah ive always wondered too why Apple won't let its OS run on PC, well, maybe in the near future but for now we might as well wait
 
lol I looked into dual booting it...but it seems way complicated.

Also, I have a question....after looking at other threads about running OSX (or Leopard or w/e) on a PC...someone said it's not actually "illegal" it's just against Apple's "rules" or w/e....is this true? Because I don't give a shit what Apple thinks...

I read the first article...

It won't surprise you to note that nearly all of the hacked-Leopard-on-PC material works off the assumption that you've stolen your copy of Leopard (i.e., you've downloaded it via the peer-to-peer BitTorrent network). There are no recipes for taking a legitimate retail copy, purchased at the Apple store, and repurposing it onto your PC. Probably this has something to do with the fact that Leopard costs $129 at retail.

boot camp gives macs legacy bios support. Windows does not support EFI hardware (it was suppose to in vista, but MS crapped out on that one) so boot camp translates legacy bios over to newer EFI support. You can't just boot off a windows disk and expect to run windows. With the exception of now that boot camp is installed natively.

It also against the EULA which you agree to to install any apple software on non branded hardware. If you want a Mac just go buy a mac, period.

I don't want a mac, because for what you get (hardware wise) they are a RIPOFF. I just want to try it out (on my pc, which is a way better buy than any mac could ever hope to be).

lol, i know what you mean but keep cool there are ways to do it, we know better than to talk about it, and you said earlier that it's hard, well too bad thats the way of life ( i mean way of the dragon :P)
you just have to do it, hard or not (i did it, sorry) :cool:

This statement is completely subjective, and the fact that the Macbook Pro runs windows vista faster than any other "windows centric" laptop out there is a milestone to their quality of hardware. Apple designs everything from the ground up.

You can't walk into a Porsche dealership and except to pay miata prices for a Porsche because spec wise they have some similarities.

It all comes down to features and benefits, and if it is worth it to you. In all honesty I am at root a PC guy. Learned on a PC, windows and Linux and am now a mac convert years later, but still keep around the PC side. I like Linux and OS X a lot. I don't mind windows XP because it never crashes on me (well after two service packs it never crashes on me now), but windows Vista is just so bad that I refuse to touch it. And yes, I own a copy of Vista ultimate, our MS rep gives all us TIS people free software so we can test it out before the company buys it.
 
There is an easier way to do it, you can download a copy of OS X as a torrent with wesley's patch on it. It is an installation DVD iso file which has already been cracked and just needs to be burnt and booted. It's not complicated at all.

Vista's never crashed on me.. What are you running it on?

Yeah, I have been encoding a DVD, and batching some pics at the same time, no big problem... I think the problem is that you guys are probably trying to run it on old Semprons or A64's.

Has it ever crashed on your C2D? Aero is always on here...

baf, you are encoing only a video, i told you to do all 3, it will be best if you can run 2 virtual machine though :P, and what do you mean by batching pics, pictures are nothing :cool:
anyway i use my laptop for work purposes, not multimedia.
i was agreeing with the crash cause it did my bro, and his spec is way better than mine, he was playing wow, photoshop and goLive, at idle and media player on.
all of a sudden Media player popped up saying not responding, so he tried ctrl+alt+del which also crashes wow, i was laughing my head off

Yeah, Apps do crash, Ctrl+Alt+Del does what it's meant to do before you click end process, it did that to me in XP, too. I just run one thing at a time while gaming. Batching pix, is like copying formatting in MS Word, you know how you can press F4 and repeat the previous text formatting, etc?

Batching takes all of my resources on my work lappy and it's Core Duo 1.83Ghz with 2Gb RAM.
