Running Proccesses

I was wondering how many running proccesses does everyone have? I have 40, and want to know if this is too many. What is a good number to have running for peak performance? Is there a site to help me get rid of any proccesses that I really don't need? I have now idea what most of them are for and don't want to delete anything I may need. Thanks.

It all depends on your system how much you can run at once.
