Running Software Straight from an External?

Hey guys Sorry if this seem's like a pointless thread and i put it under catagory memory due to the hard drive side.. i guess it could so in software too :confused:

Anyway my computer burnt out so I've been using a family members Laptop
Acer aspire 6920 it's a decent laptop and was pretty much top notch years ago when it was worth £1500.. Now i guess it's worth what.. £400?

Anyway i like to edit videos and pictures but wasn't allowed to install any software on this laptop because it's not mine.. just browse the web and stuff, So i dug out my External 1TB Samsung HDD and decided to see if i could install software directly onto it and it works.. I was surprised i thought the transfer rate of the Hard drive wouldn't run programs heck it runs Autodesk 3d's max and renders..

Could i cause any damage doing this? The computer still picks up the Shortcuts and puts them on the ADD/remove programs list I just remove them so nobody knows

You can't run software straight from an external drive.

You can install executables to an external drive but once you try to run them, or in other words install them then they will be placed in C:/Program Files etc.
 
It works on all versions of windows. I use it to run the applications on an external drive and the contents on my ssds. That way i get the peformance without the capacity loss.

A strange comment though don't you think?
