Running too hot...

I tried building a new comp, here are the specs:

Lian Li case
Antec 550w PSU
Intel PCI-E mobo
P4 3.7 ghz Prescott 2mb extreme
BFG 512 mb gforce ultra 6800 PCI-E
2- 1gb crucial ballistix ddr2
300gb maxtor hd

The case came with 3 80mm fans (front, top, back) pre-installed, and I added the 80mm fan i got with the vid card to the back. When I started up, the CPU was IDLING at 60 celsius, the 2 zones of my mobo coming in at 50-55. I tried playing farcry, and when I quit the temp was 80 celsius for the CPU, and the 70s celsius for the mobo. I really don't want to have to get into liquid cooling- what are good air cooling options i.e. cpu heatsinks, case fans, etc...? Thanks for the help.
 
well i dont know how munch money you have but the best way to go is heatpipes if you dont know what it is its a bunch of pipes with water in them and when the wter gets hot it rises and the cold water gose to the bottom
i can give you some items to choose from but i need your socket size (eg. 754, A, 478)
 
socket lga775 on the cpu. i have some spare cash but im trying to only use air cooling if at all possible, b/c i dont want to risk leakage on these parts. also, if my stock heatsink/fan was not firmly placed on the processor, how much of a temp difference would that have made, and would that have affected the temp problems in the mobo, too? i ask only b/c i wasn't happy with the way my heatsink was sitting, but i let it go at the time. thanks again for all the help.

edit: im going to be moving the pc halfway across the country every 6 months (college n back) for the next couple years, which is another reason why im looking for air cooling instead of intricate piping networks

Hmmm...

Well there seems to be hot air in your case and therefore too little circulation of air. I would make sure that you have (my opinion), one or two intake fans and one or more out-take fans. The intake is usually in the front bottom and the out-take at the top back of your case. The third intake is often on the side. The temps are very high in my opinion. Bad placement of the HSf can create a big problem in terms of temperatures. However, the mobo temps are high as well indicating very little air ciculation. In general you should have intake fans in the front and out-take fans in the back. An ideal placement of out-take fans is at the top of the case.

one intake fan in front, 1 exhaust on top, 2 in back, 0 on side. I think my main problem is that my video card (which goes the length of the mobo) is blocking intake and encasing hot air in the lower end of the machine. I think that if I add an intake on the side of the case over the video card, that will help in getting the cool air to the top half, and adding an exhaust to one of my expansion bays at the bottom will help take out the warm air building up down there. thanks for all of the help so far.

edit: would a thermalright xp-120 (using the lga775 adapter) with a 120mm, 115 cfm, 45 dba panaflo fan with arctic silver 5 give a solid performance boost over the stock intel stuff?

Make sure your heatsink for the CPU is of adequate size and are you using thermal grease between the cooler and the CPU? Temperatures are way to hi at idle.
 
looks like you need some more intake fans in your system. Get some more intake fans and then see if you temps drop
