Running XP and wont fully boot up

My other computer was running fine yesterday but then after a game crash, when i reboot the computer, it goes all the way until after u select users (then enter the password) and then once the desktop picture comes up, it just stays there and nothing else loads, including the start menu or anything else.

BTW, this also happens in safe mode.

So im wondering if there is a way i can manually force the start menus to open (through windows task manager maybe). Or maybe if anyone knows where this problem could be coming from in the first place...

Sounds like your graphics card may have died.

Do you have onboard video?

What brand and model pc is this?

its a custom built pc. the specs are in my signature. so should i try hooking it up directly to the onboard mobo plugin instead of the 7600gt?

Yeah, I would give it a shot anyway, just to rule out the video card.

It may have corrupted some Windows files when it crashed though.

Do you have the Retail Windows disc for your OS?
