?'s about Win 7 install on new computer

I have built my last few computers and expect I will be building a new computer in a month or two. I currently have a valid copy of XP on my current computer. I plan to cannibalize that computer as much as possible when I build the new one and will, therefore, be removing XP from it.

I will upgrade to Win 7 with the new computer, and I want to know that I can get the upgrade and not full version of Win 7 and will be able to install it.

Can I? Will there be problems registering it? It is my understand an upgrade requires that the previous OS be completely installed. Will I have to install XP first? In the past when upgrading, Windows installation has only requested a valid CD of the previous OS be inserted into the CD drive to allow the upgrade. I always like to do a clean install and would prefer to do it that way.

TIA

Unless something has changed you can not upgrade from XP to win 7 you have to do a clean install. anyone correct me if i'm wrong.

You can do a full install from an upgrade disc. boot from the cd, when the setup asks you for the cd key, just click next. select the version of windows you paid for, if you dn't your cd key won't work. when windows is installed, it should prompt you to activate it. then you just enter your cd key and do it over the internet.

If that fails, call ms activation on their toll free 1800 number and activate that way. (you get to talk to a human :) )
