i dont think you can repair a hard disk.. what HD do you have?
I know WD has some tools to check the condition of your harddisk, to see whats wrong with it.
but most likely you'll have to contact the shop were you bought it (if it still is under warranty)

and if it isnt... well,.. i dont see much of an option to disable the smart test in the bios and keep it running till its death then.
however.. mainly the warranty on a HD is pretty long :)

Hard drives are mechanical, so if something fails it's pretty impossible to fix it (since by opening it up you contaminate it). I would back up your files ASAP and get a new drive quickly.

I have replaced the controller before, and even moved the plates to another HDD, but it is not an easy task. Listen to Omegae...if you can access windows or whatever OS, get all your files backed up, maybe do a files and settings transfer and get a new one ASAP. If you have another puter, you can hook the old drive up as slave and do a deep test of the HDD, run check disk and what not. You can also start the PC with a UBCD and use HDTune to see if about what errors occours. Good Luck!
