s-video

I just hooked up my laptop to my tv using the s-video cable that came with my laptop(Dell XPS with a radeon 9700 mobility card). It works, but isn't very clear. I was wondering if anyone know of any ways to increase the clarity. I've heard that the cable itself can be a big factor, but I don't want to go out and waste the money on it unless I know it will work. Any help would be appreciated.

Other then getting a HDTV TV and HDTV out nope.

Does he mean the color bit mode? Uh, 32-bit running? Newest video card drivers? Correct video control panel settings? Need lower or higher or matching resolutions for both displays or the one being used?

That's because your using a regular tv, they aren't capable of displaying anything in higher res like a monitor.

Yeah, what Tweaker said :). To make the text somewhat readable I just set the resolution to 640x480 (or the lowest it can go) and set the windows font size to the largest (display properties>appearance).
