Hello. I purchased a new computer yesterday and let a friend of mine trying it with the rersult that I have a safely remouve hardware icone in my tray bar now.

When I click the icon,a window open and say that I can remouve my disc drive safely??

What to do?? Im running an Athlon 64 X2 3600 + with 1 gig memory DDR2 667.

Everytime that I start windows.(Vista Ultimate)

I hide the icon for the moment but I want to get rid of it.

Thanks!

Click it and go through the hardware wizard and see if there's anything to set it up or something like that, are there any drivers needed for it?

Bet you got a nvidia chipset with a sata drive, sata drive are really hot swappable, but you cant if its the drive with the OS on it. Its normal

Yes I ve got nvidia chipset and a sata drive.

So you mean I cannot remove the icon and will have to live with it?

If someone else knows how to completly get rid of this icon(not only hide it),it would be highly appreciated.

You running XP
  1. Click Start menu > Run > type regedit and then press ENTER;
  2. Navigate to the following key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\nvata
  3. Create a new DWORD value called "DisableRemovable" (without quotes) and set to "1";
  4. Close Regedit and restart Windows.
