Sager

What do you guys think of Sager?

I was originally going to buy an iMac but thought about portability so opted for the Macbook Pro, but then one day I was browsing for gaming laptops and saw a Sager notebook cheaper than the MBP and had better hardware as well. Downside is, I won't be running Mac OSX anymore. I'm thinking about getting this specific model.

Hardware I'm after:
  • 15.4" WSXGA+ LCD with Super Glossy Surface (1680X1050)
  • 45nm Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P9600 / 6MB L2 Cache, 2.66GHz, 1066MHz FSB
  • Nvidia GeForce GTX 260M Graphics with 1GB DDR3 Video Memory
  • Genuine MS Windows® VISTA Home Premium 32/64-Bit Edition
  • 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1066MHz - 2 X 2048MB Requires 64-bit edition of Windows Vista to optimize whole 4GB!
  • 500GB 5400rpm SATA 300 Hard Drive

What are opinions guys? I'll be using the laptop mostly for graphics work (video editing, 3d rendering, photoshop) and a bit of gaming.

Oh and is 320gb HDD @ 7200rpm much better than 500gb HDD @ 5400rpm? Is there a huge difference, speed wise?

I have had a Sager laptop for over 2 years now and have never regretted my purchase. High quality laptops with nice hardware. I have never had any issues what so ever.

As far as the hard drive...7200 RPM would be better for all around performance.

Great products from a great company. I highly recommend Sager to anybody looking for a nice laptop. I am actually in my living room on mine right now.

I have a 5400 RPM in mine and it runs everything great. When I bought mine over 2 years ago that was all you could get. I game with mine, edit photos with Gimp and many other things with no issues.

With the applications you will be doing (video editing, 3d rendering, photoshop) you might want to upgrade to a 7200 RPM. You will need all the read/write speed you can with a laptop running those apps.

yeah, tis really whacked!

now i have to wait. the boyfriend of my sister might be going to the US next month so i can have him buy it and carry it back here like it was his or used without having to pay customs fees. but his trip isn't sure so if that fails, i'll have to settle for the macbook pro then. none of my relatives from the US are coming back here til september. :(

How much would shipping to UK be?

EDIT: $251.49

Why don't you see if someone on these forums would buy it, get it shipped to you for cheaper?

Shipping a 5KG item from UK > Phillipines on a 5 day delivery plan is $73

good plan. i'll wait first, well i've been waiting to buy a new laptop/computer since december. i've just been holding off my purchase.

Sager laptops are pretty solid machines. I know a lot of the retail people like Ibuypower, (or maybe it is Cyberpower..whatever) use Sager laptop models and just tweak them in their shops. Sager has been around for awhile too.

cheers for the insight.

i'm still thinking about this or the macbook pro. it's the way of getting the sager which is the problem right now.

Actually Sager don't produce their laptops, a Taiwanese OEM called Clevo do:

They are still very nice laptops though.:)
