someone tries to sell a rc1 of vista for 50 dollars on craigslist. the thng is i dont own a copy myself so i dont know if it is legal to sell it. looks like he's trying to screw someone over before the release date.

The beta versions are no longer found at Microsoft. The RC2 beta is no longer there pending the release of the full retail versions. It's simply someone's effort to make a fast buck on someone's else's property. Once the full versions are released it's totally useless since a beta version is only a stripped down shell of the OS for evaluation only.

It is completely illegal to sell the Beta version of Vista, and if someone finds out, it will be removed.

$50 is a LOT of money. If you really wanted to, I could send you Vista RC2 for virtually nothing, but what you really need is the CD Key.

That would be a case of fraud and should be avoided. Sending a copy of it now would also be in question since the beta program is closed. The numbers originally given out could be used on 10 systems apparently at the time. But no new serial numbers are available.

$5.99 + $4.99 S&H is far from the $50 seen at craigslist. Newegg is already a licensed retail vendor for MS products as well as the softwares being sold. The $5.99 is a handling fee for stocking it. That's all that is which is quite legal. Someone at craigslist is simply trying to "hussle a buck"!

That's obviously someone trying to make a fast buck with a line of crock since both RC1 and later RC2 were free to download directly from Microsoft. You just had to be a subscribed member of MSDN in order to get a product key. The product number is apparently only good until the summer of 2007 from has conveyed here. EBay generally goes by who "bids the highest" unless there's a quick buy option.

If someone sells a copy that price, it is illegal. On Microsoft's site, you can order it for $5. Plus, the guy fills his pocket and the Version will run out. He should have gotten RTM. At least, it would still be illegal, but not being an idiot.

Since the beta program is ended you probably won't see it there for $5 or anything. That the trial and development period is over. Now you have to wait for the full retail versions to hit the shelves

It's not over, you can use the Beta versions of Vista until 2007.

The number issued with the beta releases is only good to July 2007. The problem now is not being able to download any new copies as well as product id numbers since the beta evaluation period is over. The time period for running the beta versions expires completely next summer.
