same price for Vista Home and XP Home

I looked around on ebay and saw that XP Home costs about the same as Vista Home Basic. Why wouldn't the price of XP come down any? That doesn't make any sense.

It depends "where" you shop! You can find 2000 retail for $200 still if you look far enough(not too far). XP Pro oem disks with SP2 are commonly found for some $80-84! Try nextag, bizrate, shopping.com, or another site that lists price comparisons between vendors. XP Home still seems to be found a little higher then the Pro version however at most sites.

Operating systems dont usually come down in price just because of a new release. They usually stay about the same until the OS is just discontinued.

Gee and I missed a copy of NT 4.0 for $5 at a pc show some time back. Well at least I still have three different versions of Windows and a few Linux distros to work with.
