i have just bought a hitachi deskstar hdd sata11 and my mobo only recognizes sata1 i thought there would be a jumper on the back of the hdd to change it to sata1 but there isnt does anyone no what i have to do please.

If your board has a Sata 1.5 controller and the drive is Sata 3.0 and the controller picks it up and runs as a 1.5 you shouldnt have to do anything.
 
My other maxtor hdd is a sata11 hdd and my mobo couldnt detect it untill i changed the jumper on the back, thats what is worrying me.
 
If theres no jumpers theres not much you can do, I would just hook it up and see if the controller picks it up as a 1.5. W/D Sata 3.0 drives have the 1.5 jumper too.
