Saphire X1950XTX over heating

Hi there,
I have just installed a Saphire X1950XTX 512mb video card which is liquid cooled (blah blah) but the bloody thing is not running cool. Ambient running temperature is in the high 60 celcius mark and when I play a game like Splinter Cell Couble Agent, the game runs fine but the warning cuts in I have to stop playing as the card is now in the 100 celsius mark.
I have a E6600 2.4 duo 2 core processor
2 x 1gb ddr2 667 ram
2 x WD 250 gb sata-2 7200rpm hard drives striped 0
in a thermaltake soprano case.
I was thinking that the default 430W psu might be a problem as it states on the packet to run 450W minimum but this would be more for the running of the gpu and not the cooling, or am I wrong?
If anyone has heard of a problem with this card before or can think of ideas would be appreciated.

Seating and other thoughts....

I'd check the water block seating and also make sure you have flow. If that doesn't help then maybe put the stock cooler back on and test temps. If with the stock cooler it's still overheating then I would just RMA the card. No matter how good something is there will always be at least a few of it that have issues. Good luck! :D

Thanks for the advice but how would I check to see if the water flow is flowing ok?
It didn't come with a stock fan just the cooling unit so I can't test it any other way.
It doesn't have any leaks so can only assume the water block is on tight and don't even know what the RMA is let alone adjust it.

Oh you have the TOXIC watercooled X1950XTX? Cool. As for RMA that is returning the part because it's defective and either getting a new one or your money back. Where did you get it from?

For checking the water flow try feeling the tube you should be able to tell through vibration or just the feel of the water flowing through the tube.

Thanks for the clear up Grey410.
I checked the tubes and couldn't really feel any vibrations or water running through allthough one is as hot as hell but that probably doesn't prove anything.
I'm taking the whole computer back to the store where I bought the card from so hopefully they can either get it working or get another one for it.

Good Luck

Good call on taking it back to the store. Hope it all works out. Let us know the out come. The tube being hot seems kind of suspect to me.

Yeah it seems as if it's blocked or the pump isn't working (I assume it has a pump). I will hopefully get it back to the store in the next couple of days.
Will let you know the result.
Thanks for the help.

Update

Well I just installed a new Toxic x1950xtx vid card and this one runs in the mid 40 c mark when just running normal programmes. I haven't checked the temp after playing Splinter Cell or anything but using Aquamark3 I got a score of 113,370.
With the 3dMark 03 or 05 do you use the full version or demo version only?

I'd get the new 3Dmark06 and run it. The demo version. Then search for the 3DMark06 scores thread and post a screen shot there to share your scores. :D

Grey410, thanks for your help and advice.
Your system is pretty similar to mine, have you ran 3dmark6 and what results did you get?
I ended up with 6304 but boosted that up to 6324 turning off programmes running in the background.
I haven't done any clocking with mine and don't want to unless I really have to.

Excuse me if this is complete BS but I've read somewhere that a GPU can run hot sometimes if it's underpowered as it is starving for energy. With that powerful of a card, even just a 30W deficiet of energy might be causing the card to overheat.... I would consider getting a wee bit more powerful PSU to adequetely power all of your components there.....

3DMark 06 and Folding @ Home

Gixer that's an awesome score man. I get about 5980 Stock speeds on my cpu and X1900XT. With overclocking the CPU to 3.2ghz and the card to 651 core and 755 Mem I get about 6315. You're rocking man! I also HIGHLY recommend you join our Folding @ Home team. It's fun to compete and it's easy to do. Go here: http://www.computerforum.com/56751-folding-home-about-how-team-progress.html to check out the how to's. You can run it on both cores AND your video card! Which will help you rocket up the rankings on the team! If you are interested and need any help setting it up let me know or post a question on the Offical Folding thread under General Computer Chat. I do recommend only using Core 1 @ 75% because your Graphics card needs the CPU to poll it. Glad to hear your system is doing well now. :D
