Hi all! I'm new here, but looks nice, been peekin' around ya know.

Okay, well, I'm looking at a SAPPHIRE 100177L Radeon X1950XTX from Newegg.
Looks nice, but I'm wondering if my powersupply can even handle it. It's an Apex, and I'm just wondering if this will be able to handle the card.

Here is some information:
Protection YES
Input Voltage 115/230 V
Input Frequency Range 50/60 Hz
Input Current 10A @ 115V, 5A @ 230V
Output +3.3V@28A,+5V@52A,[email protected],+12V@20A,-12@1A,[email protected]
The maximum power wattage: 500.

And also, the card looks nice, but I see mixed reviews. Some say it cuts through FEAR at 140 FPS on max settings, and some say it's 10-40 FPS.

I'm on a new ASUS motherboard with a nice AMD dual core processor, 2.5 gigs of RAM. (Processor runs at about 2.8GHz)
Any chance someone can give me some insight?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Budget?

Thats a nice card and should work fine with your PSU. How much are you looking to spend. The 8800GTS is just as fast if not faster and is DX10 ready. :D

Well if you are still looking around here, I'm not buying it, my girlfriend is (suprise) and she wanted to know more about it... for some reason she asked me, even though it's for our BUDDHIST Christmas (lol) and my birthday.

But ... I don't have that RAM yet. I'm looking to buy 2 gigs for myself so I'm capped at 512 until the 25th.

The maximum I'm looking at is around $500, but I'm 14 until the 19th, I don't have a job so some reorganizing on my whitespoiledboy's Christmas list is in order.

...let's get this done.

2 gigs = $200*
1 gig = $100
22" LCD monitor = $360*

That's 560*

The new nVidias' price are around what? 430-680. I want to spend 400-500.

That leaves me a good option of http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130071.

And how much ram should I have when running it? I mean, I want some more for processing, but I think a new card would help a ton... and would my PSU support the new nVidia cards?

I was looking at them, maybe I'll do some research on newegg... Help me, if you may, and tell me some sites I could do shopping with, so I can get a good deal, maybe with some rebates/coupons.

I am thinking the nVidia is the best decision thus far, thanks for your help again.

Edit: My asus motherboard is built with CrossFire capabilites. Does that include SLI? I think not, so maybe the nVidias aren't so good?

Your PSU should work with an 8800GTS. I'm not positive but it should. It needs 1 PCI-E power connector as do all cards the X1950XT included. I shop newegg for my computer parts.

Currently NVIDIA cards (the 8800's) are the best out due to being fast and supporting DX10 (they're the only ones that do atm). Your board is made to run 2 ATI cards in Crossfire mode. But honestly one 8800 card would be more than enough.

The PCI-E power connector is a 6-pin connector on the PSU which plugs into your video card to provide additional power. An adapter is provided with the video card if your PSU doesn't have one.

As for your question, your power supply is well below the recommendations for both the X1950XTX and 8800GTS. I would very strongly recommend upgrading it before adding either of those video cards.
