I've heard that the Sapphire X800 GTO2 can be unlocked and oc'ed to effectivley be an X850 XT, and possibly a PE. I've been considering trying this as a replacement for my 6600gt, but i just read this website:

To save you the trouble of reading all of it, the bit i'm talking about is here.
On the next page it says that the new test system has an Asus A8N-SLI, which is what i have, but i bought mine quite soon after it was released, so i fear it may be a bit buggy.
I did have a problem when i tried to OC my CPU a while ago; after i went past a certain frequency (dont remeber what it was), i got a hard drive corruption, which killed my old IDE HDD
.
So i was thinking that maybe there would be a problem when i try to unlock and oc the GTO2 too. I dont want to have to buy the card only to find out it wont work.
So do you think there will be a problem with it?
Thanks

The chances are that the process will be trouble free. However, in fact I did run into problems. Once flashed the card refused to generate a picture on our test system and it turned out that there was a rare incompatibility with our motherboard. Switching to another motherboard the card booted fine and had successfully been modded to 16-pipelines, but it meant we couldn’t test the GTO2 with the original round-up. However, we since moved to a new test system and the card works fine.
