sata 2 vs sata 3

One last cry for help on this, I can't seem to figure it out. Is it my harddrive not recognizing as sata 3? Do I need some type of drivers to use the sata 3 ports on the motherboard? Any ideas would help, I was hopeful that this harddrive would be faster than it currently is and maybe the sata 2 vs sata 3 issue is causing the slowdown.

Even if it is SATA II, that shouldn't explain a huge drop in speed. No rotational drive will come close to touching the bandwidth of SATA let alone SATA II in sustained transfer.

What kind of slowdowns are you noticing? I'm wonding if maybe Windows is running the drive in PIO mode. You can check this in the Device Manager settings for the SATA channel you are on. I think it was only a problem on IDE controllers though.
