SATA and IDE

Hi I recently bought a HD and it turns out that it's not IDE but SATA so is there a cable I can get to make it work or should I return it? I'll be running a dual HD setup and the 1 i already have is a IDE.

It should come with a SATA cable, so I assume that what you mean is you dont have a sata connection on your motherboard?

What you can and what I SUGGEST you do is buy a SATA Contoller PCI card, it plugs into a PCI slot, and you can plug the harddrive into it. I suggest you do this becuase sata is faster and newer then IDE.

I didn't get a SATA cable with the HD. OK so if I get the SATA Contoller PCI card will i still be able to have my IDE HD and the SATA HD?

Yes you can.

How do I set the slave/master settings on a SATA drive? And would i still need to buy a SATA cable?

SATA drives dont need to be set to slave and master, they are automatically configured.

And yes you would need an IDE and SATA cable to use that, but there only a couple bucks on newegg.

It's an OEM so more than likley, it will not come with an SATA cable.

You can get them from around $10 to a few hundred, depending on the features you want. Any of them should work fine for most things.

Dual hard drives means you have 2 hard drives....I don't see why you think that it wouldn't work.

Are you sure that your motherboard doesn't have SATA connections?
