SATA cables?

so what is a SATA cable? when looking it up i found:

"A sata cable connects a motherboard to a Sata hard drive."


is this all it does?

i thought it was cables that give cpu fans power.?
 
Yeh its just an updated IDE, thinner cable aids airflow, and I think its done away with the Master/ Slave issues although that may be motherboard specific or I might have made it up lol.

Someone confirm?

I'm pretty sure. It's also much faster, and the smaller connector on the MB allows for more connectors. It's a lot like FireWire and SCSI, only faster and it autoterminates.
