Sata hard drive ?

Does Sata 3.0GB/s mean the hard drive can transfer 3gb's a second?

If it does what can a normal IDE hard drive send a second?
 
I don't know the exact speeds of drives, but no hard drive can reach SATAII speeds. SATA is not really all that much faster than old PATA/IDE drives just because of hardware(drive) limitations.
 
Well I did some benchmarks with my 3GB/s on "top performance" set in BIOS and I got a little over 3GB/s on the test. Without it on I got 750MB/s. I believe it refers to the data transfer on on the hard drive itself (ex: deleting a 3GB file) but that is internal transfer which is what the 3GB/s means for, if you want it to go to something else it must go through the SATA wire which is external transfer and will never get that hi.
 
Trust me, you did not get 750MB/s... The fastest I've ever seen a drive go is about 180MB/s. I had a Raptor RAID that hit 216MB/s

Did you start smoking crack recently? That would be even slower if it was an external one.
SataII is the interface, ie, how it talks to your motherboard. It can transfer up to 3gb/s to your motherboard, but does it? No, no hdd has gone past 1gb/s yet :eek:
And please, next time, please refrain from making false statements, you confuse yourself and others.
 
OMG! Not an external HDD! I think you may be the one who must stop the crack. :P I mean external as info from internal HDD to MOBO to RAM. Internal as HDD to or erase on the same HDD.

That is not what you stated in your previous post. You said "external transfer" which refers to an external hdd. There is only two kinds of hdd transfering, internally(one hdd to another using IDE,Sata,sataII,SCSI) and externally (over lan,usb,firewire,etc.).
There is not such thing as "internal transfer" as you are referring to. There is not transferring going on when you delete a file, copy(cut)+paste on the same hdd. That would be called read and write :rolleyes: And the "internal transfer speeds" that you are referring to is actually called read and write speeds. Sata II is the interface which allows for 3gb/s to be transfered from the hdd to the mobo and wherever the data needs to go.
Again, don't post false information, you confuse people who don't know about the subject, and you just look like a dumbass.

Weather you want to say read or write I dont care, and how about you tell us then what they mean 3GB/s means or are all these HDD makers making false comments as you say over and over again?

You mean 3Gb/s, and 750Mb/s. The average speed of a SATA3.0 drive is around 60MB/s, with a burst speed of around 105MB/s.

Do PCI-E cards transfer at 3gb/s? No, then why do people use PCI-E when video cards haven't been able to max out agp transfer speeds? Simple, PCI-E provides a better platform for video cards and so when the day comes that video cards can use 3gb/s transfer speeds, it can. Same thing goes with hdds. They use Sata II so that when the day comes that hdds can read at 3gb/s, it won't be bottlenecked. Now, i have tried to make this as simple as possible for you, but if you still don't understand it, as usual, then i'm sorry, i can't help you.
