I bought a Sata Hard Drive for my computer.
My motherboard really only takes sata drives.

Does the Hard Drive only need 1 cable to function ??
I only have 1 Red Sata Cable (data)

The reason I'm asking is because the hard drive won't show up on computer..

Let me know
thanks

Many newer boards still have an ide channel for using optical or having one slaved to an ide drive. Besides the red cable you also have to plug in the power connector too! Without that nothing will work as far as seeing the drive in the posts or in the bios let alone installing the OS. Make sure that is in.

sure does
wish I would've known,
this is my 3rd newegg order these last 2 weeks.
I would've saved on shipping twice already
ohh well
I need it, thats exactly what I need
thanks

Thanks.
I came from knowing nothing.
To feeling confident about building a computer.

I am using my new build right now as we speak.
Just that the old hard drive is on the master ide cable and the slave goes to the cd drive....

Hope the cable gets here fast.
Can't wait to take pictures and post up my first build.

I didn't think I can build it all alone.
Well I didn't,
I had all you great guys here helping me.
But physically, it was all me.
yeah
bye and thanks

When and if you build another case or simply upgrade to a better supply you will then see the different power plugs used on sata drives. But now you know a drive won't work without power. :P It only takes one thing to trip you up.

Yeah I was being hard-headed and didn't want to waste more money on a PSU. I don't fully regret it, but next time I will buy a better PSU.
Can't wait till it arrives.
Thats the final piece for my build.
Peace
