I have a dell 4600 with a 160 gb hd in it. I have been trying to do a fresh install of windows xp home. I put the computer to boot for my cd-rom and put disk in the cd drive and restart computer. it says can not find bootable drive. I useing the diskd that came with my computer. I have no clue what's going on help please

When you start up the computer, do you see it say "Boot from CD:"? It will say that regardless of if there is a bootable disk, if there is a bootable disk it will then say "Press any key to boot from..." If you do not see either, then it sounds like the settings are not right in the BIOS for the boot order.

That's most likely the reason.. 6-7 Months ago when i installed win 7 ultimate, i had the same problem. Everything i did was to enter the bios and change the boot order to cd/dvd first then HDD etc... But, the CD/DVD MUST be first in order for the installation to work propperly (mainly because the installation will require multiple restarts during the installation and when finishing).
