SATA HDDs not recognised

Hi there, this is my first post here so i hope im posting in the right section :)
Ive had the same Asrock K10N78FullHD-hSLI R3.0 motherboard for about 3 - 4 years with no issues until lastnight. my windows 7 OS is installed on a IDE drive and i have 2 SATA HDDs plugged in. No RAID or anything just as normal slaves. lastnight i went to browse one of the drives when i noticed they were no longer visable.
they do not show in the BIOS and when you first restat the computer it kind of hangs for some time while trying to read the drives before it lets you access the BIOS setup screen. The drives spin and have been tested in other computers where they work perfectly. ive updated the BIOS and still no change. I decided to take out the SATAs and plug them in via USB using a converter whrer they worked fine. i plug them back internally via the SATA ports then nothing again. i was hoping someone here may have some idea what might have gone wrong?

thanks

Did you try different SATA ports on the motherboard? If changing them makes no difference then your motherboard may be going bad.

they drives work fine, they have all been tested. if i connect them to the pc vie USB using a converter they work fine, can access them perfectly (thankfully lol) the only thing i havnt done is re-installed the botherboard drivers

Are there any entries in device manager that have yellow question marks or exclamation marks? Sounds like a bad motherboard if device manager is fine.

righty im going to go off and try a few more things, im hard to convince lol. thanks for the help its much appreciated

there are no error messages reported in the event viewer. ive just tried a totally different SATA harddrive in there and does that same with that too and i know that harddrive works. tried every port and got the same thing so im guessing the board is gone. most likely a power failure on the SATA section somewhere but i dont have my test equipment anymore so im unable to test it. 9 times out of 10 it will be something simple..... but hard to find lol
gonna see if i can buy another board of the same type on ebay then hope for the best :)

You mean device manager? Never said anything about event viewer. They are 2 different things.

there was nothing in the device manager either, everything looked installed and working. checked to see if anything needed updating but it said there were no updates needed. i guess its how computers are, their great when they work and when things go wrong its always at a bad time :D im just grateful my hdds ae ok as they contain everything
