OK I've ben reading the SATA 101, but it's not making a whole lot of since to me still. I have been at work all day, then reading some things for a few hours so I'm tired and may have over read some things, so sorry if I'm asking things that are answered in the 101. But the main thing I want to know, is what exactly does it do? Does it just speed up the transfer rate from the HDD to the motherboard, or is it something else? Also what all is needed to use SATA? Sorry for posting such a dumb question, really this is the only thing that is alien to me with copmuters...

It's an alternative to PATA. It's serial, it's got 7 connecters (3 ground, 4 signal), and it's (theoretically) possible to achieve much faster transfer rate with SATA than with PATA.

if my PSU has a SATA connector is that for data or power? probably a stupid question but it never hurts to ask.
