I have all SATA 2. Hard Drives and I am running win xp pro.

So they are all being seen under my iDE Controler in Device Manager. And in my BiOS under SATA Configureation it is set to iDE.

The people at ECS who the Motherboard is by told me I would have to set SATA Configureation in the BiOS from iDE witch it is now to AHCi.

Then save and exit the BiOS and when it re starts put the win xp CD in and do a Re install.

Then install the SATA Drivers there.

They told me when win xp was made SATA Drives ware not out yet so win xp needs you to install the SATA Drivers.

Then I should get the SATA Transfer speeds.

Is there a way I can do this without re installing win xp again???
 
On a desktop unless your going to hot swap there is no reason to change over. No performance difference.

No. When you change the mode to ahci, the windows installer will not see the drives without the driver installed. You must do a fresh install/repair install of windows.

can i just do a repair install of win xp so i can install my sata drivers without doing a full format??????????????

And i have sata 2. drives so you are telling me if i am setup for sata and i have the sata drivers installed my data trabsfer wont be sata speeds?????????

why did they come out withh sata drives if you get no perfomance speed??????

i mean transfering data from sata to sata???????
 
As Stranglehold has said, there is really no performance increase by changing it to ahci. I wouldn't worry about it and leave it as is.
 
It still runs on a 3GB/s connection, if thats the speed of the SATA ports you have. Which drives dont get anywhere near that. Its still a SATA interface. Having it in AHCI mode just adds Hot swap and NCQ.
