You just have to set the jumper on the hard drive to force it into sata 1.5 Your gonna have to look at the hard drive and there might be a sticky on it giving a pic. If not then look online for your model

tlarkin VIP Member Sep 29, 2006 #4 thats correct its a simple jumper setting. I just bought a 250gig sata 2 drive but only have a sata 1 controller. I just jumpered it to limit the speed to 1.5 instead of 3.0

tlarkin VIP Member Sep 29, 2006 #6 it should be legacy, I don't see why it couldn't just run that sata bus at a slower speed. Only when its faster would it cause bottle necks.
