Sata / Ide configureation

Hi guys, been awhile.

i have a computer with a 260 gb IDE hdd. i has xp and is running just fine. i just came up with a 160 sata drive that i want to temporarily use as the "second" drive, so i can see what is on the drive. after that i plan on installing XP on the sata and using it as the main drive and wiping the ide for server storage.

my issue, is that i dont know the cable/jumper/ software configureation for the Sata/ide combo. so if someone can give a me a quick rundown or link to a tutorial, i'd REALLY appreciate it!

I have that same issue/idea except I have a 160 sata in my computer with tons of ide drives i want for storage.

You don't need to mess with jumpers when there is only one IDE device per channel.

well, i also have two IDE roms. so i assuming that when i want the SATA drive to be the main xp install i will do this:

Sata HDD in Sata, (no jumper settings needed)
Primary: Master is IDE Hdd, Slave is DVD reader
Secondary: Master is Dvd burner

and can i just install the sata Drivers on the IDE XP HDD too see the SATA one?

Yes, you just need to simply plug in the SATA HD, boot up the computer, and possible format the drive.
