SATA plug question

I have a Gigabyte mobo (socket 775)...not sure of model # at the moment (at work currently)...it has (6) orange SATA plugs and (2) purple ones.

My question is can I use all of those? (I was reading the manual and was still a little confused). I'd like to plug my (2) DVD drives into the purple, and my 3 hard drives (am getting a 4th is why this is being brought up) and external SATA plug on my case into the orange.

Any help would be appreciated.
 
Give us the model number of the motherboard and we can answer your question better. Most likely ypu have 2 different SATA controllers. Sometimes the odd color can only be used for raid.
 
You have 2 different sata controllers. The orange are intel and the purple are gigabyte.

So what you want to do should work providing you have installed the driver for the gigabyte controller.
 
I'll give it a try...just got my system back up and running after some sort of meltdown trying to upgrade the PS (turns out 1 of the wiring harnesses is bad in it)...system would not boot up after reinstalling the old PS...went back to the drawing board and plugged in 1 thing at a time and kept rebooting...everything works now after trying all last night with no success...I think it's Gremlins.

Will post back in a few to let you know if it works normally...thanks
