if i have 2 SATA hardrives do thay have to be the same make, size etc? or can u mix and match? and also how do u go about setting them up to work together? is there a thread about this?

thanks Dan

No, you can get any SATA drive you want, just make sure to get the right type (SATA150 or SATA II). All you need to do is hook up a power and data cable to the hard drive and your set to go, unless you want to setup RAID.

how do i set up a raid and are there any major advantages? i use my pc mainly for surfing the net and playin games over the net such as CSS! also will i have to reload windows? because if so i will have to ring bleedin microsoft again to validate my copy of windows and i have only just done that lol

cheers:)

RAID is used to join 2 or more hard drives together to perform certain tasks. The most commen RAID setups are 1 and 0. In 1, every thing that is written in one drive is written in the other. That way if 1 drive fails you still have your data. RAID 0 involves having each piece of information to be written being split up into chunks, that way each drive only has to write and access a part of the file, making for greater speeds. For your needs though it wont be needed, because tehse RAID arrays also only let you have the starage space of one drive, and you wont see much loading time increase, even for playing CS:S.

Check out the RAID 101 for more info.

i hada look at the thread about raid. i think i get it mostly so from what i can gather for playing games there doesnt seem to be much gain by havin a raid setup. wud i be best jsut to have the 2 drives seperate
