SATA RAID PCIe Controller Cards ...

Brand new to this forum!

I have a few of these SATA RAID PCIe Controller Cards and I have a question about them.

Do they all require a special low level formatting of the Hard Drive (performed in the boot/BIOS section of the controller card, not windows or Bios) before they can read the Hard drive? If so, it answers some of my concerns over these cards.

I have a number of this type card with two-channels (Running in PCIe-X1 slots) that I intend to use with older motherboards that don't have enough onboard SATA ports. I think the brand is High Point or Mass-something. I'll be configuring them as Raid 0, and yes, I know the speed will only be 1.5G/sec max -- but I'm hoping it will still be faster than a single HDD.

Your thoughts? Answers appreciated!
 
Better make sure these older motherboards have PCIE x1 slots first. Are you sure your cards aren't actually PCI?
 
Seriously, no one has any comments on this?

This is a computer forum and no one is caring to reply to performance of add-on SATA cards? Really? Everyone has has all the SATA ports they'll ever want? What is it that you folks do here?

Could anyone reccommend another computer forum that might me more in line with my question?

Please help.
 
The only thing you'll need for the system to see the hard drives are the drivers for the raid controller cards.
