Could someone clear up the differences between SATA and IDE please?
-Is SATA denoted ATA-300, while IDE ATA-100?

ok... is it correct then that SATA = ATA300 then?
and can you put 2 devices on one channel of ATA300 like you can IDE?
It's important to remember the "S" on ATA, if you go around just saying ATA300 for instance, people are going to get confused. (IDE = PATA).ok... is it correct then that SATA = ATA300 then?

Sata = a lot faster - best way to go for hard drives
IDE = slower... good for DVD and CD drives
My mobo has 2 SATA ports and 1 IDE
But if you need more go and buy a PCI card like many people say.
But not with newer technology SATA is the way to go and i also hear that they are coming up with PATA......???
they already came out with PATA. its the same as IDE. and parallel. and ata 100.
someone so graciously even provided a pic:

the top one is PATA.
hhhmm..... well what's going to be next???? (what's the name going to bed???)
I don't have a strong preference either way, they both have pro's and cons. SATA theoretically is faster, although DVD Drives don't use that much bandwidth anyways. The only real pro is that they use smaller cables.Well, I'm buying a new DVD burning drive... would there be a big difference between PATA and SATA? (I'd prefer SATA, but some people recommend PATA...?)

SATA setup is much more cleaner looking, I agree. haha that's pretty much the pro's of it.
1 question about sata drive, why my system think that my sata hard drive is a removeable storage like flash disk?
It show up in safe remove hardware, is there anyway to disable it?
I think there is nothing wrong with the setup, when i installed the mobo driver which is nforce, in the middle of installation there is a warning indicate that would i want to replace the storage driver with the optimized nvidia storage driver or just the windows storage driver.
In the end i choose the nvidia driver and voila, the hard drive gone as a removeable storage. There is no problem with the system so far and the hard drive cant be removed either (which is gladly since i would scared to death if the hard drive can be removed and the system would be crash).
Just a slight annoying to see the hard drive in safe remove hardware.
