SATA Vs. SATA II

I recently purchased a new HDD and it’s Seagate SATA 3gps, 11ms seek time, 16MB Buffer, 500GB. And little later I saw exact same deal with Maxtor HDD except it’s SATA II and it’s seek time is 10ms. So read up on the FAQ's and I noticed

"SATA2 (aka SATA-II) is an extension of the serial ATA specification and allows for twice the throughput."

Hmm does that mean that 1ms difference in the SATA II connection makes world of difference in feel, when I access the HDD since it’s going through twice the throughput?

The 1ms difference in seek time shouldn't be because it's SATAII, it's probably because it's a newer model which they were able to improve, therefor decreasing it's seek time.

The difference in throughput between SATA and SATAII are theoretically suppose to be two times, however SATAII hard drives dont reach that speed, and generally have an average throughput less than SATA speeds, however have peaks that may spike above 150MBps.

The difference between your hard drive and the new SATAII is very minimal, and your not going to notice much (if any) difference between the two.

I don't even think most any drives can even hit ATA133 speeds, much less SATAII speeds! Harddrives are SLOOOOW...but in due time, hopfully they'll be the actual speeds of the interface...
