save to desktop doesn't work when opening.

Hello
i went back to internet explorer from fire fox and when i put a web page on my desk top it use to say something about fire fox. now it says this "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel" when i go to control panel -folder options i don't know what to do . i restored all defaults and that didn't help. the favorites are working fine but putting a website on the desk top gets the icon there but then the above message.

A simple solution there is to save the page in the favorites first and then use Windows Explorer to go to "C:\Documents and Settings\user name\favorites" to then right click on the item to create a shortcut. You simply drag the shortcut onto the desktop from there.
 
that sounds good but when i get to favorites folder it doesn't have any of the favorites i saved in it, yet they are there in the drop down favorites.

Have you clicked on them to see if that opens the web page sought? Another way is to go to the web site and redrag the "e" icon in the address bar to the favorites button if not the links. Then browse those two folders to see it was saved. If you are alowed to save the same pages you should see a prompt asking you if the existing link in favorites or on links is to be overwritten.
 
Ouch alright! The next time you have a number of links in your favorites copy the files out of the C:\DocumentsandSettings\user name\favorites folders to a new location. If something then wipes the folder clean you will still have those backedup somewhere safe. The best place of course is either on a cd-r/rw or dvd-r/rw totally off of the drive.

Now to get those back working again in the event of a reformat of your drive you simply copy those to the same folder and then use explorer to open each one by double clicking on the file there. When each page opens through IE you then go to favorites and use the add button. That will see those restored while being a nuisance at the same time. Each one has to be done precisely the same way(oh wellll.... :( ).
